Inventory Items and Tech.
Your agent is equipped to carry around items (up to 4 of each type), and deploy them at will. Items can be either picked up from dead enemies, or (more commonly) bought inside your base at a terminal. As you get items, they appear as icons in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. The brightest-green item is the item that is currently selected for deployment. To cycle through items and change which one is selected, use the "]" (right bracket) key. To deploy the item, press the [ENTER] key.
One of the handiest, and more common tech item you can get, is "Base Defense". This item, when purchased, will automatically activate laser turrets around your base. They will scan for intruders and fire upon any that they detect. They may not kill every agent that enters your base - but they'll make most of them turn tail and run out in a hurry. The one exception to this, is the Black Rose. Their agents are very stealthy, and as such won't be detected by your base's defense mechanisms - so be aware of this fact when you go up against Black Rose agents.
The items you can buy are determined by 4 things:
- How much money you have. This is pretty obvious. Different objects cost different amounts of credits. If you don't have enough credits, you can't buy the item.
- What organization you belong to. Certain items can ONLY be bought and/or used by members of a certain organization.
- What items you assigned to your tech. slots before the game. You only have a limited number of open slots; but between games you can change what you assign to each slot (some items may take up more than one slot). You can only buy items which you've assigned tech. slots to.
- What systems in your base are un-damaged. Enemies can plant destruction devices and other items in the lower level of your base. Each machine that they damage or destroy will render a tech. slot (or slots) inoperable (for the current game only). You will have to spend time and money repairing the damaged machinery before you can buy items from those slots again.
